Q: What does it cost me?
A:You can play for free, but to really get the most out of GameRanger, you need to sign up for Premium membership.Q: Will it support game X?
A:If you want a game supported that is not on the list of upcoming games, you might want to (politely) let the game's creators know how strongly you feel about this. The more demand there is, the more likely they will be convinced. Q: How do I change my icon?
A:Choose User Profile... from the Edit menu. Paste a picture or Finder file icon into the icon box, or drag & drop a file/folder directly to the icon box. Q: What are the green dots next to player names?
A:This means the player is currently playing a game. Q: Does it support ladders and rankings?
A:Yes! Ladders, ratings and rankings are supported for competitive play for nearly all GameRanger games. You must be a Premium member to participate. Non-Premium members can still view the ladders. Q: Why can't I be in multiple rooms at once?
A:Sorry, but this is unlikely to change. If you want to have that omniscient feeling of chatting in 15 chat rooms at once, try IRC (internet relay chat). Q: Can I create my own room?
A:Premium members can host their own chat rooms and control who can join. Q: Why doesn't Paste work in the chat rooms?
A:Paste is intentionally limited to one line of text. Q: Can I use the voice-chat while playing games?
A:Yes! Premium members can use voice-chat while playing. The quality of the voice is just as good, but the in-game voice uses a much more advanced realtime transmission method that minimises latency. Q: Can I choose starting options for a game I host (like map, rules, etc)?
Yes. Choose Extra Options... from the Gather Game... dialog, or from the Game menu after the game window is open. Only some games support this. Q: Can I find someone by their nickname?
A:Yes. Choose Find Player... from the Chat menu. Q: Does GameRanger have a "buddy list"?
A:Yes, choose Buddy List... under the Chat menu. Q: Can I set game options for my user profile (like colours, skins, etc)?
No, these are best set in the game itself. Q: Can I get more info on servers (like rules, player scores, etc)?
A:Yes, double-click the server. Q: Will I be able to search servers for a player?
A:Possibly later. No guarantees. Q: Can I adjust the number of "pings"?
A:The number of simultaneous pings is decided by your connection speed. You can change this in Preferences: Network. Q: Can I write my own plug-ins?
A:If you are a game developer, see the developer section about supporting GameRanger with your game. If you are not a game developer, let the game developers know (politely) that you want them to support GameRanger. Q: Will GameRanger support "skins" for changing its appearance?
A:The idea is being investigated and may come to light at some point. Q: Will there be a PC version of GameRanger?
A:There are currently no plans for a PC version of GameRanger, but this has not been ruled out. This would certainly mean more people to find for games. |
